Around The Farm

Here’s a few photos from around Villa Creek Farm, one of our farms that provides our market produce.   It was designed with sustainability and maintenance in mind, inspired heavily by John Jeavons’ research on sustainable biointensive farming.   The farm includes a wide variety of heirloom produce grown from open-pollenated seed.

Spaghetti Squash

Here some spaghetti squash are forming.  The zinnia peeking through the cucumbers are from a previous post about cut flowers.  As this space was tilled this spring, we have been contending with weeds and grass.  We see chipping the tree that fell in the heavy storm this past weekend and using the wood chips for walkways as a great sustainable solution!   We were relieved to see all our trellising remained stable through the storm.

    The garden looks amazing!
Weeding it this past Friday was one of the most rewarding experiences ever!
“Therapeutic” for city dwellers and moms like me who tend to be running, running, running!

I am so inspired by what you have created and the Kale was incredible last night for dinner! And Kale-Chips today for lunch!

    Rooftop Hot ROCKS!

Thanks for exposing us to strawberry spinach. We sprinkled it into a green salad tonight with grilled chicken. We also loved the tomatillos. Looking forward to seeing what you’ll have at the upcoming Farmers’ market.

I had fun in the garden. Thanks for teaching me. My favorite things to eat were the tomatillos and the strawberry spinach. I can’t wait to come back.

Hi Joe, we are so glad you enjoyed the farm. It was a fun day having you there! You were really good at driving the wheelbarrow! Come back any time you want. We are about to build a new compost bin system, that should be a fun day too. ~Sabrina

The garden looks great. Now I know why the heirloom tomatoes taste so good.
